Sydney Sweeney, star of Anybody But You, has branded the idea of women supporting each other in the film and TV industries “phony.”
The actress, who has also starred in Euphoria and White Lotus, told Vanity Fair:
None of this is going to happen. It’s all fake and everything else that everyone’s saying behind her back is just a front.”
Earlier this year, the star hit back at “disgraceful” comments made about her by a Hollywood producer, saying, “She’s ‘not pretty, she can’t act.” Why is she so hot?”

When fairly asked about the incident for the latest issue of Vanity, Ms. Sweeney said, “It’s such a shame to see women putting other women down, especially when women who are successful in other areas of their industry are working hard in the hopes that younger talent will get what they have – and then try to slander and discredit their work.”
Sweeney, one of Hollywood’s biggest shooting stars in recent years, further discussed why this is the case.
“I read that we’ve been led to believe that only women can reach the top. It’s a generational thing,” she said.
“There are women who can get the man. Some women can be anything.
“And then other people feel like they have to fight each other or they have to drag this woman down, instead of saying, let’s all lift each other.
“I’m still thinking about this. I’m just doing my best here. In April, Carol Boehm, who produced films such as The Inseparables and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, spoke about Sweeney after the screening. “Today, it’s Sidney Sweeney. I don’t know who Sidney Sweeney is. I wanted to see the Sidney Sweeney movie “Anyone But You,” so I watched it on the plane.
“I wanted to know who she was and why everyone was talking about her. “I saw this insufferable movie. I’m sorry to everyone who loved it… It’s a romantic comedy where they hate each other.”
Bohm, who also teaches at the University of Southern California, added, “I said to my class, ‘Explain to me what this girl is to me. She’s not pretty and she can’t act. Why is she so hot?’ No one could answer.”
In response, Sweeney’s rep told Variety, “How sad that a woman who is in a position to share her expertise and experience would choose to do so “to attack another woman.”
