Pop star Charli XCX revealed that when she was only 15, her parents took her to rave parties to perform.
She added that she convinced them to do it by saying, “I have swim practice at 2 am.”
The singer’s album “Brat” became a cultural phenomenon over the summer. Many adopted the “brat” lifestyle.
Since its release in June this year, the album has been popular for its original songs and remixes.
The British singer, now 32, delivered the opening monologue as the host of Saturday Night Live (SNL) on NBC in the United States.
In it, Charlie (whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison) tells viewers how she got to where she is today.
“I started performing at a very young age and played my first rave party when I was 15,” she said.

Brat is Collins Dictionary’s Word of the Year for 2024
The summer of brats is officially over, Charlie declares. She goes on to joke that she’s come a “long way” and now describes herself as a “triple threat, meaning brat means ‘I sing, I drink and I smoke.'”
Charlie’s sixth studio album has inspired millions of social media posts and countless dance moves and has risen to the top of US politics. US presidential candidate Kamala Harris has rebranded her social media to “brat” to attract younger voters.
During an appearance on SNL, the British pop star defined what brat means to her.
“So many people have asked me what a brat is and honestly it’s just an attitude, a mood,” she said.
“I have to say brat summer was a crazy experience,” she added.
Trying to define the word on SNL, she referred to the incident in which American businesswoman Martha Stewart falsely claimed that a journalist covering her trial had died. “I wrote that she was dead, and that’s a brat,” she said.
“And then last Friday this same journalist responded with, ‘Hey, I’m alive…’ That’s very cheeky.”
Charlie, who was also the musical guest on the show, continued: “Honestly, anyone can be a brat.
“It’s just a dream come true because it’s so bratty and authentic and vulnerable,” she said.
“I’m so happy to be here and I’m not used to going out so early on a Saturday night, but it’s worth it for you.”
Charlie had previously defined a brat as a girl who has a ” She describes him as honest, forthright and “a little unpredictable”, saying he’s “nervous but likes to party”.
She told the BBC podcast “Sidetracked” that the brat might have “a pack of cigarettes, a Bic lighter, and a white tank top with no bra”.
The creating aesthetic has become popular on TikTok, where Charli’s brat girl summer is seen as a rejection of other trends such as the feminine and sophisticated “clean girl.”
Earlier this month, “brat” was named Collins Dictionary’s word of the year, with lexicographers defining a “brat” as someone with a “confident, independent and hedonistic attitude.”
