MANILA, Philippines—On Thursday night, Kathryn Bernardo received the Rising Star Award at the 10th Asian World Film Festival in Los Angeles, California.
The Hello, Love, Again star is in the United States to promote her upcoming film sequel with Alden Richards.
In her acceptance speech, Kathryn said it felt “surreal” to receive the award for her achievements in the Philippine entertainment industry.
She also spoke about how she grew up in front of the camera as a six-year-old child actor, eventually becoming one of the most popular actresses in Philippine film and television today.
“It feels so surreal to stand here tonight and accept this award,” she said. “I would like to thank the Asian World Film Festival Board for this incredible honor. I want to thank them not only for recognizing my body of work, but also for celebrating all the stories that we as Asian artists continue to share with the world,” Kathryn said, reading from her acceptance speech notes.
“I started at age 6 and over the years, I’ve been fortunate to bring to life a variety of characters, each of which has given me something new not only as an actor but also as a person. I’ve been here for 22 years, dedicated to my first love and my passion: acting. Yes, I know it’s hard work, but moments like tonight make it all worth it.” “It is a great honor to represent my fellow Filipinos and my home broadcaster ABS-CBN here,” she added.
