I’ve spent over 17 years sprinting across New York City in heels. My mother, who has plantar fasciitis, has been pleading with me to look after my feet the entire time. My mother often says, “You need shoes with an arch and some support!” when I tell her that my feet hurt. As I get closer to being forty, I’ve concluded that my mother is nearly always correct. After a few years of working remotely and having consecutive maternity breaks while wearing soft slippers and comfprioritizingto prioritizing taking care of my body, especially my feet.

I just discovered some old Jimmy Choos beneath my desk. After donning the shimmering wrap-around, I walked only five steps before throwing them off and going back to my trusty flats. I saw as I glanced around the workplace that I wasn’t the only one who didn’t want to wear heels. The majority of the workers used to march around in heels a few years ago. Now, my colleagues and I agree that discomfort was something we couldn’t overcome, not even for the sake of style. I tried on my old go-to workplace heels after organizing my wardrobe, and I threw them all into the charity bin. I had given up on wearing heels until I came upon a pair that completely altered my life.

When I received a pair of Joan Oloff Desiree heels, I was enamored with them right away. I’m completely smitten with the T-strap design, which secures my really thin foot, and the two-toned, gold-and-white color scheme. When I put them on, I thought I would squirm after just a few steps, but to my surprise, they were very cozy. I double-take at the logo and looked up the company on Google. It turns out that a podiatrist, who is quite knowledgeable about feet, created the comfortable heel.

Designer Joan Oloff hails from a long history of shoe professionals. Her dad subsequently took over her grandfather’s shoe shop. She spent years treating patients whose feet were injured by wearing high heels as a podiatrist after leaving her job there. She therefore decided to create a range of stylish yet practical shoes. Her shoes are unique in that they distribute weight evenly, absorb shock, and offer support—all of which help prevent painful feet by preventing pressure from building up on the ball of the foot.

I tested the heels by wearing them into the city and taking the subway to several meetings and activities, and they performed well. Although they are pricey, they enhance any appearance and go with so many different ensembles. The nicest aspect is that I don’t feel any discomfort while I walk in them throughout the day.

I’m happy to say that they are not only functional but also attractive because I just wore them to a wedding and received several praises. I can joyfully report that stilettos are back in my shoe rotation, even if I still adore my slippers and sneakers. These shoes have been the only thing that has helped me break out of my shoe rut.
