The Houston Rockets instructional course started yesterday, and players inside the group’s young center are as of now causing disturbances in film taken during the first and second long stretches of camp.

Jalen Green, presently entering his fourth NBA season, was scoring in a wide range of ways during Houston’s scrimmages on the primary day of camp. He was going after the edge, on a very basic level making his shot, and getting ostentatious from all pieces of the floor.

Green reached the halfway point of 19.6 points per game for the remainder of the season on 42.3% shooting and 33.2% from deep. His ability to receive the maximum young player expansion has been hindered by questions about his consistency and production in the scoring division, which have led to exchange reports. October 21st is the deadline for the Rockets to consider expanding him. Reed Sheppard, the third overall pick of Houston in the current NBA Draft, has also been outstanding from the start of the training camp. After practice, the former Kentucky Wildcat was spotted honing his shooting technique.

Sheppard’s shooting was the primary factor in his high draft position, though there were other factors as well. Sheppard had a 52.1% shooting percentage from beyond the arc in his one collegiate season, but the Rockets struggled offensively last season, especially in that area.

Sheppard’s two-way skills made him quite desirable as well. Even at six feet three, he showed excellent defensive ability in college and the NBA Summer League. Sheppard is a nuisance when he’s on the ball at the boundary and can get into passing lanes.

It’s encouraging to see Houston’s young players performing well in practice. The Rockets finished the season with a 41-41 record, and they have realistic playoff hopes going into their second season under head coach Ime Udoka.
